Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) works on behalf of the 15 million Americans who have food allergy, including all those at risk for life-threatening anaphylaxis. This potentially deadly disease affects 1 in every 13 children in the United States – or roughly 2 in every classroom. Formed in 2012 as the result of a merger between the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network and the Food Allergy Initiative, FARE’s mission is to improve the quality of life and the health of individuals with food allergies, and to provide them hope through the promise of new treatments.

  1. I was recently diagnosed with allergies to shellfish and sesame. Sesame has proven to be more of a challenge since it is not on the list of top allergens. Does anyone have a list of “safe snacks”, etc.? As everyone else I’m losing more weight than I care to. Thanks.

  2. I had my first food allergy back on 09/12/14. Tested positive for almost all tree nuts (level 4 &5). It’s been a learning experience, six visits to ER with anaphylaxis, whole body hives, angioedema (face/lips), wheezing and trouble breathing. Finding hiding tree nut products and it’s not always marked. Some micro brewers use walnut extract to flavor their brew, olive oils cut with nut oils. Learn to eat non-processed foods and always carry your epi-pen and med kit complete with action plan. Everyday is a challenge.

  3. in March of 2013 someone put a peanut in my water and I was told by a friend that there was a peanut in my drink. I am severely allergic to peanuts and mine is airborne. after that experience I kept reliving that moment. People will argue that my allergy can’t be airborne and soon I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder because of that experience of if I drank it I could be dead. Another thing made the experience horrible, the teachers through out the evidence and the person who did it attempted murder and the teachers asked who did it and no one will confess because the person would get in trouble and go to jail with charges of attempted murder. Allergies are a thing to take seriously and not question. The experiences afterward were people challenging my allergy to peanuts and now I think that the only way to make them understand is if I go into anaphylaxis right in front of them and that isn’t a good thought.
